This is about as beautifully designed book as one is lucky to encounter. The wine labels are off scale elegant, the photography is sensitive and well thought out, the typography is a delight. The great book and type designer Jan Tschichold would have loved this book. Bravo!

David Schuemann has complied a great collection of exciting wine bottles and told the stories of their development. As a former globe-trotting advertising photographer who spent his 25 year career avoiding still life images (bottles, cans, flowers and bowls of pasta) I am thrilled by this book - starting with the black-on-black cover and stand-alone poster of the 99 bottles inside.This book is a must-have companion to Paul Wagner's "Wine Marketing & Sales" book - especially chapter 6: Wine Packaging and Labels"

I heard this was a very nicely done book and I wasn't disappointed. The dust jack on the inside doubles as a gorgeous poster of all the wine bottles w/labels featured in the book. Interesting stories about the wineries and the label designs. I gave it as a gift to friends who make their own wine.

Celine and Jesse speak to me. They are of my age and generation. I am emotionally invested in them. I feel like I've grown up with them, in real time. We can all relate to their relationship ebbs and flows and the intensity of their feelings on so many topics. As they've grown older with me, their youthful idealism has perhaps dissolved somewhat, into something more pragmatic, or jaded...but glimpses of magic remain. I am a huge fan of the the Sunset/Sunrise series of films, and having the screenplay(s) in front of my eyes took me back to the wanderings and musings of Julie Delpy, Ethan Hawk and Richard Linklater, woven through scenic streets of amazing cities. The thoughts shared by these writers, seemingly so casual and improvised (due to their rich talents), resonate so strongly in the screenplays I feel like the films are unfolding in my mind.The only things that would make this book better are:1. if it also included the lyrics to the song Celine sang to Jesse in "Before Sunset", strangely skipped and noted as a song she wrote for another boy (which is not what I remember from the film-- I remember getting choked up at how moving the lyrics were, and wished they had been included to read here)... and2. if it also included screenplay of the third brilliant film in the series, "Before Midnight".

I just stumbled across these two movies starring Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy. I have watched the movies several times. Hawke and Delpy work so perfect together and they seem so natural....not just acting. The scene in Celine's apartment at the end of "Before Sunset" is priceless. Delpy is at her best. I had never purchased a screenplay before but I am glad I did. It is amazing how the movies adapt the screenplay so well. I cannot wait until next month when "Before Midnight" is released. It is getting rave reviews already. Kudos to Linklater and Krizan as well. I don't understand how they can produce 5-8 minute uncut scenes while walking through Paris and Vienna streets.

Having watched the films, I can remember beautiful details of their expressions paired reading these screenplays. It's spell-binding to peek into the world that connects Jesse and Celine in such serendipity. They were truly how two dislodged branches came back together. We all grow through life in the way that they did and reading this creates ripples of deep thoughts as if I am taking a train ride and deciding my what ifs and being in touch with the adventurer spirit inside me. As they are walking and I'm walking, it feels almost parallel and that makes it thought provoking. Even without watching the films, it draws one easily into the everyday of the enchanting Paris.

Before Sunrise touched my soul when I was 20, and defined for me the very essence of "romantic". Sadly, my own backpacking trip in Europe 4 years later only brought unrequited love and pain. But it was memorable, and gave my life meaning and completed it with stories.Before Sunset brought me back to those days, making the pain of reality more poignant. I was also unhappily married with a child. It touched me again in a way that I had forgotten.Reading the screenplays brought out real emotions that I had forgotten, joys and tears that have numbed over the years came back, and I felt somehow alive again.Heard there will be a 3rd. Looking forward to it with trepidation.Where and who will I be then?

I LOVE the movies and it is sooo nice reading the screenplays too! I I only wish Before Midnight was available too!

It's an early script, but not the original one. The reason why I know this is because the script in this book contains the fake phone call scene, and director Richard Linklater has said that he had written a different cafe scene that ultimately didn't work out. Julie Delpy was the one came up with the idea for the fake phone call.The script is still enjoyable to read as there are some scenes that don't appear in the movie. If you're a huge fan of these two movies like I am, this is well worth getting.

Love the story and small differences with movie version :)

About the Author

Ms. Yawson earned a BA cum laude in Social Studies from Harvard University, an MBA from the Wharton School and a JD from the University of Pennsylvania Law School. I read "Sunne's Gift: How Sunne Overcame Bullying to Reclaim God's Gift" to a group of very attentive 5-8 year olds this past summer. Surprisingly, they were very reflective and followed the characters throughout the entire story. It was great hearing the children's feedback and responses from the discussion questions at end of the book. Some could relate to Sunne's challenges to be accepted. This book should be on a shelf in every public library, school library and home. Sunne's Gift is about diversity, about bullying, about celebrating each others differences, and about love. This book conveys a powerful message regarding the acceptance of those with a different appearance in a manner that is highly accessible to children. The approach is from a quasi-religious angle where a creator god Nyame creates four child-like spirits (called magbees) to govern the traditional elements of the earth: sun, earth, wind, and water. each named accordingly: Sunne, Earthe, Winde, and Watre. All is content in this world until Sunne rejects the unique appearance of her hair, sending the world into chaos until her, and her fellow magbees, learn to embrace their unique attributes and recognize these differences as being inherent to maintaining the balance of the world.The illustrations are vivid, and the story is very captivating for young children. This story can hold the attention of small children and they can spend hours staring at the picture. This is a perfect book to be read to a child. I found it particularly effective with children ages 2 to 5.For that reason, I think the classification as a book for 7 years old and up is in error. My 7 year-old nephew, who attends public schools, is already beyond this reading level, although he did seem to enjoy going through the questions at the end (categorized as reading comprehension, science, art, and spiritual and cultural studies).There are two noteworthy subtleties that I observe in the book. First the creator god Nyame is never identified as male or female, nor are any of the four magbees (although two are illustrated as being distinctly male while the other two are illustrated as being distinctly female).And secondly, the magbees are drawn in a manner that could be interpreted as somewhat grotesque, with rocks, shells, and puffs of cloud growing from their faces, although more importantly, they also contain features such as dark skin, freckles, matted hair, and spaces between their teeth. These subtle deviations from what has long been accepted as mainstream appearance or beauty standards is remarkable, and a powerful tool is helping a young child to overcome issues of body appearance, and varying physical traits. Moreover, early exposure to such images encourages acceptance of others with physical differences not regularly depicted in mainstream media.I have often seen parents ponder what age is appropriate to begin discussions of racial, cultural, and ethnic differences, as well as differences in physical appearance. I think many parents wait too late, hoping to protect their children from the cruelties of the world, never realizing that they are inundated since birth.Consider this: before a child can even speak, they have seen thousands of images and have been engrained with the idea that the only acceptable appearance for a princess is svelte, white, blonde, with long flowing hair, and brown/tan people can never be more than sidekicks, supporting or background characters, or the bad guys. How long should wait? How many years do you want to spend trying to overcome everything your child learned about who they are, and who other people are, while you were waiting for the appropriate time to teach them?

I listened to Mrs. Karikari-Yawson read this aloud on Youtube, and I thought it was a really sweet story with a strong moral lesson that children of all colors could learn from. I liked the concept that Sunne's Afro-type hair could symbolize a connection to the Sun. I didn't get a good view of the illustrations, but the cover is pretty. If I ever have kids, I'll definitely buy this for them.

As someone with an intercultural/interracial background, I wish I and society at large had this book growing up. It would've made such a difference in my being able to appreciate my looking different and, at the least, in offering another perspective on what is valued in our culture. It's challenging to undo that legacy within society and within ourselves, but this book is an incredible tool for unlearning and relearning to make that cultural and internal shift. Children and adults will not only get a beautifully written story with powerful illustrations, they'll also be experiencing a movement toward valuing ourselves as we are and expanding our ideas on what we value as a whole. Last but not least, the heart and thought put into this book was palpable!

I love giving Dr. Seuss and Berenstain Bears books to my friend's children. But this book is now being moved to the top of the list. Thoughtful, beautiful, and in a class of its own. This is for every child and for parents and adults to read with them. A good reminder for adults to love and accept those around us as well.
