well the book is more like and paid advertisement info comercialjust do not get too much information

Before you get your hands into the Amazon Cloud, this book is a must read. This should be a required manual (or sorts) especially if you're thinking about skipping the free documentation available on the Amazon Web Services site.Even before you buy this book, you can be sure that the author, Jurg van Vliet, knows AWS concepts very thoroughly because this author has also developed an iPhone and an Android app for AWS, called "Decaf". Decaf uses native AWS API calls to interact with your AWS account. Search for this author on YouTube and you'll find an interview describing this book. This book may be slightly outdated now as the cloud space is constantly changing (read: improving). However, the core concepts around the EC2 that are covered in this book are still the same. This book gives you a great start into the core EC2 (and AWS) concepts that you must understand before you get started with EC2. For example, this book explains the differences between EBS-backed and S3-backed instances in such detail that I could not find in the EC2 documentation. This book also provides you details instructions on how to get the command-line tools set up.A prerequisite for this book should be that you do need to have some basic understanding of programming and/or scripting. For this book (and for EC2 in general), you should also have some system administration experience (Linux or Windows). This book will not show you how to host your site on AWS but it will show you how to get started toward that goal. AWS is much more than a hosting solution so if you're only looking to host website, you may be disappointed by the contents of this book.Currently this is the only book that covers AWS (and EC2 in particular) in this much depth. I have also read Jeff Barr's Host Your Web Site In The Cloud and if I had to pick one book out of the two, I would pick this Jurg van Vliet's book because it focuses more on EC2 and provides more in-depth coverage of topics that someone using the EC2 as utility computing will need. The title of this book is slightly misleading because the book doesn't just cover EC2 exclusively. It goes into many of the other AWS services such as RDS, S3, CloudFront, Auto Scale, SQS, SimpleDB and SNS. I would have titled the book "Programming Amazon Web Services" because it doesn't just talk about EC2 which is just one of the many services within the AWS offering.

I'm starting to read a little bit more about Amazon Web Services. It all seems pretty great. I'm surprised that it's new to me as it's been around since 2002. I've been reading Programming Amazon EC2 by Jurg van Vliet which is a pretty informative book. I've been learning about all of what AWS has to offer, which from what I've understood so far is practically invaluable, whether it be the infinite storage that Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) offers, or Amazon SimpleDB as a NoSQL option, their Elastic Load Balancing (ELB) which I think is also an amazing service thats offered... and their Auto Scaling ... and Cloud Front CDN. I can't believe all of this is new to me. Boggling my mind. Anywho... It's yet another step to move into the distributed server technology world. This is an extremely informative read and it's actually very nice to have on my Kindle app on my Android and iPad because it allows me to highlight and go back to specific things on a whim. For a mere $27, I'd recommend purchasing this.

I have a service in AWS and bought this book to learn more about AWS services in order not to read all AWS Online users guides, but have a first handshake. Read the whole book, was sutisfied for that time of introducing AWS to myself.Book is good for a brief overview. Its small, well, clear-written. Good for AWS understanding. But not more. For more - use AWS Online User guides.

Great book for getting started developing on amazon ec2. It's a fast-read, giving a nice overview of all the different products amazon has to offer and how or when to use them. It also provides examples with code snippets on how automate some more complex tasks like scaling and making snapshots. Although this book is a very quick start for new Amazon ec2 users, I'm afraid it might get outdated quite fast since amazon continuously adds more features and new products to the mix and makes things easier.

Thank you.

A good book overall but the quality is uneven. Some sections are well presented while others just confused me and made me go to the AWS online documentation, which I wanted to avoid in the first place.

Not detailed enough in how to actually migrate applications to AWS...too general.

If you want temperatures, driving distances, and accommodation prices get the free books from AAA. If you want great information about out of the way, interesting places you'll probably miss otherwise, buy this book. I have all the "Hidden" books and always use them when planning a trip. I find them especially useful when I want to go an alternate route to places I've traveled before. If you want to plan a trip using the "Blue Highways" use this book-if you want to get there fast and miss a lot of interesting things, fly...then buy the book anyway to see what you've missed.

I had a previous edition of this book and found it useful. Bought this one for more current info on dining and lodging. I would recommend it to a friend but also that one take advantage of New Mexico's annual travel guide--free online as well.

I love mysterious New Mexico, and this little book provides a wealth of information and reading enjoyment. As a writer, I bought it for research on my upcoming mystery series featuring cowboy gumshoe Buck McDivit. It didn't fail me.

Even though this book is ten years old it still has alot of good background information about the Albuequerque, Santa Fe, Taos and the areas between them.

After 25-30 Trips over the last 40 years, found a few new things in this book!

We live in New Mexico, and every holiday or free weekend we use this guide to lead us to new exciting and beautiful places. This book is the perfect travel companion for anyone interested in smaller, off the beaten path places. This book led us to discover Las Vegas, NM, a (yet) not so touristy place unlike Taos or Sante Fe. Thanks to this guide, we enjoyed the free road side Hot Springs located in a pristine alpine valley, and delicious restaurants that put the more known places to shame. It has small eateries and interesting museums, parks like the little known Three Rivers Petroglyph National Monument with thousands of drawings, on the way from Socorro to Alamogordo. Yet again, this is a place not mentioned in other tourist maps or books. I would recommend for anyone really interested in traveling through New Mexico to also have DeLorme Topographic Map of New Mexico with them for references and the smaller roads. The general RandMcNally or AAA maps just don't cut it. Those topo maps are only about 16 dollars and will work great with the Hidden New Mexico book or any travelguide. Check out Chaco Canyon National Monument as well, and stay in El Rancho Hotel in Gallup, you will not believe your eyes! That was also a tip from the Hidden New Mexico book. Enjoy the most beautiful state in the nation (I am biased, I know)!

This is probably a good book, but if you buy the Frommers Guide to Santa Fe, Taos, and Albuquerque you get the same "hidden" details and more accurate reviews. Brought this book on my vacation and maybe got two bits of interesting info from it once after I got there.

Great Item!

The two things I like most about this book are the lack of typos, and the chapter structure, in which each successive chapter builds on the security and lessons preened from previous chapters. A great Cisco router security reference.

CiscoPress's "Cisco Router Firewall Security" by Richard Deal is designed as a book to secure perimeter routers. It is both a practical (and much needed) CiscoPress guide on how to harden a key piece of the network AND an excellent tool for any potential CCIE candidate (either for the Security and R&S lab). On pretty-much every page are either detailed diagrams or complex configurations discussing the topic at hand. The other reviews of this book all comment from a security perspective, and I cannot hope to add anything new to these reviews (especially Richard Bejtlich's review). I can comment from the perspective as someone studying for the CCIE. In Parts 3 and 4, the book dives into the different types of ACLs that you may encounter on the lab. Reflexive ACLs, CBAC (Content-Based Access Control), and NBAR (Network-Based Application Recognition) are each given their own chapter and fully explained in depth (something not replicated in other CiscoPress books - I own over 50 CiscoPress books). I particularly like the discussion on page 308 on how best to counter a Smurf Attack. Chapter 13 on Lock-and-Key ACLs is also a valuable must-read for any potential CCIE candidates. In chapter 17, on page 679, is a great discussion on how to counter a TCP SYN flood attack.Overall, I think "Cisco Router Firewall Security" is the best CiscoPress book published that discusses best-practices for securing Cisco routers. Too be honest, I am kind of surprised I do not see more 'noise' on this book (either from reviews here or on the CCIE list at Groupstudy.com). I have to believe it is from the title, as the title almost implies that this is a firewall book. That is too bad, as this is an excellent book for any network admin concerned about security. Weighing in at over 850 pages, this book will take some time to digest, but will be well worth the effort!I give this book 5 pings out of 5:!!!!!

I really enjoyed reading Cisco Router Firewall Security (CRFS) by Richard Deal. This book delivers just what a technical Cisco book should: discussion of concepts, explanation of command syntax, and practical examples. The author offers several ways to solve a security problem and then recommends his preferred choice. He correctly leans towards applying cryptography when available and avoids clear-text authentication methods or control channels. If you avoid the first chapter and keep a few minor caveats in mind, I would consider CRFS to be a five-star book.CRFS covers all of the major technologies I hoped to see in a book on Cisco security functions. Though published in August 2004, it manages to provide details on the newest Cisco IOS features that contemporary books often ignore. For example, the author emphasizes the benefits of configuring SSH access, and not only SSHv1; he explains that SSHv2 is preferred. I found the book's coverage of access control lists to be very clear, and I appreciated the author's discussions of strengths and weaknesses of different ACL types. Mr. Deal is also very conscious of the load placed on the router whenever higher-end security features or traffic inspection is invoked. His warnings provide operational insights to using IOS security features. Beginning with chapter 3, each section presented just the information I needed to implement various security features.I gave CRFS four stars, and not five, because I found some of the author's perceptions of security to be confusing or sometimes wrong. He repeats at least five times the oft-quoted but never substantiated myth that "70 percent of network attacks" are internal. This is completely backwards, according to CSI/FBI and Secret Service studies that say around 70 percent of attacks are caused by outsiders. While some of the most devastating incidents are indeed perpetrated by insiders, the majority of attacks continue to be launched from outside the security perimeter. While this point may not seem that significant, it is not a solid footing on which the author can justify certain security recommendations. While reading CRFS I also sensed that neither the author nor his technical editors were security professionals. I do not mean that they do not or have not handled security incidents. In fact, several of Mr. Deal's stories explicitly and properly address intrusions and other events. Rather, I sensed the author and his team were networking professionals first, with security duties tacked on. For example, p. 8 lists applications, the OS, and network infrastructure as "threats to your company's network." These have vulnerabilities -- they are not threats. On p. 28 Mr. Deal says "SSL can protect only web application traffic," but this is wrong. Pages 31-33 lists "some of the most common" DoS attacks, but the explanations there of chargen and ping of death attacks are wrong. WinNuke, a Windows DoS exploit from 1997, is also listed! Page 94 says "IDS solutions are still in their infancy," although they have been deployed for over 10 years. These and related security misperceptions made me believe a person with a primary security role should have reviewed CRFS.It is easy to overlook these security faux pas, however. CRFS does a better job describing some security issues than other security-focused books. For example, I found the coverage of the effects of DoS attacks upon a router to be better than books specifically written about DoS! Mr. Deal frequently advocates monitoring as a way to know what is happening on the network, and I found his IDS deployment guidance to be sound. To the extend I could evaluate Mr. Deal's discussion of Cisco features, I believe they are correct. One notable exception involves using the established keyword with ACLs. On p. 269 and elsewhere, the author claims "the established keyword looks to see if the ACK, FIN, PSH, RST, SYN, or URG TCP control flags are set. If they are, the TCP traffic is allowed in." This is incorrect; established looks for only the ACK or RST flags. This is not a major concern as other filtering options provide better defense anyway.Overall, I consider CRFS to be an excellent piece of work. I am adding it to my recommended reading lists and I strongly suggest than anyone using Cisco routers in their perimeter read and heed this book. Keep an eye out for Mr. Deal's next book on building VPNs with Cisco gear.

Cisco Router Firewall Security by Richard A. Deal delivers exactly what the title says: using a Cisco router for every possible perimeter security scenario. The book is written for someone who has at least an intermediate level knowledge of Cisco router and switching technologies. Advanced security consultants may want to go to Chapter 21, Case Study Configuration, and refer back to the previous chapters for more explanation when needed. However, those responsible for network security should read the entire book to be familiar with all of the latest security features that Cisco routers are capable of as well as a number of vulnerabilities that should be hardened, when possible.Deal fills in much of the lacunae of Cisco IOS configuration that are left out of certification handbooks. His sprinkling of many anecdotes from his personal experience makes the book immensely practical. For example, the author points out that Reflexive Access Control Lists can be used as a less expensive substitute for Content Based Access Control when filtering traffic for a few dozen users.Deal's book will prepare you to deal with special situations where company policy demands something different than what a firewall in a box solution offers. As he shows you how to accomplish Intrusion Detection, Content Filtering, Security Logging, Virtual Private Networking, Denial of Service Prevention, and Access Management solutions with Cisco routers, he points out when these features should be used with a router or dedicated equipment, like the PIX firewall. I give Deal 5 stars for the layout and structure, which includes notes, cautions, tables, and configurations. But what I found most valuable was his many real life illustrations from his consulting business.

This book is spot on. I started on the A + book, read up to chapter 12 then circled back around and bought this book. Then purchased the practice exam and video package. Took CompTIA test the and passed, on the first go round with a 92.4 %, The practice test are very similar to the real tests. There are some differences. The book does an excellent job of preparing you for the test and educating you for the real world of computing technology. The process took me about 4 weeks from beginning to end. I work about 50 hours a week and have a family so I was able to fit this into a very busy schedule. 55 years old and still learning. :)

I first found out about this series while watching Mike Meyers' A+ course on Lynda. His videos were very amusing but I thought I would be best served by easing my way into the infomation with the IT fundamentals book. I eagerly awaited its release and so far I have not been disappointed. The book explains the concepts easily and well. My only problem is that, as of now, the corresponding video series hasn't been released. If the IT fundamentals video series is as good as the A+ videos, it will be worth the wait. Having said that, the book is a standalone item; you don't need the videos to learn IT Fundamentals from the book.

If you're looking for something to get you started in the IT field and you're a millennial with 0-15% experience, then this book is for you. It really gets into detail and it will not make you lost like most IT books. I definitely recommend this book to anyone wanting to get into the IT field.

This book is the perfect resource for studying for the CompTIA IT Fundamentals exam. I passed with flying colors! Thank you.

This book is a great introduction to personal computers. In an easy to read style, it covers all the basics for the average computer enthusiasts, or the first step for anyone aspiring to begin a career in IT. Its main focus is on Windows PC’s, but where appropriate, it does include a brief mention of Macs. The major operating systems are discussed, including Windows, Linux, Chrome, Mac, Android, iOS and Blackberry), as they apply to computers, networking, tablets, phablets and smart phones. There is also a length section on security and Malware followed by maintenance tips and trouble shooting you devices. I definitely learned a few things. I give the book five stars.

I purchased this book for the IT Fundamentals exam. I studied it for a few weeks at a steady pace and I felt pretty confident about my knowledge and chances of passing ITF. When I went into the exam, my confidence took a huge hit and suddenly my 10/10 confidence level shrunk down to a measly 6/10 confidence level. And here's why:The book was very thorough. It has all the information that you will need for the IT Fundamentals exam. However, it will not help you with the application of such information in order for you to succeed on the IT Fundamentals exam. You will need to bring that to the table yourself. This exam is not about memorization. If you are concerned with your memorization of the information in this book the day you walk into the exam, you will likely struggle with the exam because the IT Fundamentals - at the bare minimum - expects you to have all the knowledge when you walk in. Why do I say that? Because it will test your ability to APPLY that MEMORIZED INFORMATION more than it will test your KNOWLEDGE of that MEMORIZED INFORMATION. It will ask you questions like "A user is having difficulty displaying an internet webpage properly, what is the most likely reason for this to occur?" and then it will list 4 answers, each valid in their own right, and expect you to choose the MOST LIKELY answer. And the book did everything but prepare me for that situation. So, as far as knowledge goes, this is a great book; it covers all the topics in sufficient detail. But as far as prepping you for the exam and helping you with the application of the knowledge presented in the book, I feel that it does a poor job. Perhaps that is not the book's fault, so much as the user's responsibility but all the same, I have given it three stars as a result of my study and exam-taking experience. If you have no experience with IT whatsoever, be sure to thoroughly examine this book and then take tons of practice exams from outside sources so that you can get used to the application of that knowledge. I did end up getting an 870 on the exam, missing only 2 or 3 questions, but I can honestly say that it was because I was very careful in the exam-taking process and not because the book was so stellar that failure wasn't an option.

Great guide, helpful tips, and comes with a software to practice with the exam.I would give it a 5 star but the first chapter and a couple of others had practice questions that did NOT coincide with the answers. It comes with question and answers review but there are some question and answers that did not match.

I opted for the ereader. It is very easy to read. Like the end of unit review tests and the test simulator is great. Wish there was a test phone app to continually take test questions.
