This book in and of itself is fine, but being a non-science major and required to take a science class, I found the writing in this book difficult for comprehension and retention. Students don't have a choice in the textbook for a course in college usually and I probably won't ever have to take a science class ever again, but if I did, I'd go with Geology instead of Meteorology. As far as the book's construction, I had to return the first copy I rented because there were a couple of crucial pages missing. So the manufacturer of this book should take heed to this review and others who had a falling-out-page-problem as well.
I ordered this book for my meteorology class. The professor requires the 13th edition but being on a budget I decided to purchase the older edition. The truth is, how much could meteorology have changed in two or so years right? This book does the job that I need. It has everything the professor asks and it was a fraction of the cost. I got the paper cover because it was even cheaper. If your professors requires the 13th edition buy this one. You won't regret it.
I rented this book for a college class. I found it informative and thorough, with easy to understand diagrams and other explanations-far more comprehensive than the one I had in my high school meteorology class. My only gripe is that the print is too small, a big annoyance I have found with quite a few textbooks in the last few years. If not for the small print, I would have considered purchasing it to keep for future reference.
After spending more than $100 this is how move used textbook arrived. Not only is the cover ripped, several pages inside are ripped along with the spine clearly showing usage. When you buy something new, I expect some wear and tear but you can't charge me more than $100 for a book that's failing apart. There was no damage to the box so this must have happened before the item was shipped to me.
Purchased from Amazon seller Jaydynomite. Insanely fast shipping!! Ordered 2/23 and received 2/28 with Standard Shipping! Book was exactly as described and matched the ISBN. Book was sold and described as "used" but in brand new condition! With regard to the item itself, this this is one of the ubiquitous Pearson published college textbooks. This item did not come with any additional resources like a CD or digital code, but it was not needed for my class. Text is a good size for reading, there are lots of graphics - important for a science textbook - and the book is organized in the usual way with a chapter summary, glossary and content questions at the end of each chapter. Much of the information in the book can be easily found via free resources like NASA, NOAA, and other legitimate organizations. I doubt I'll use this book outside of class or even after as it is too basic to be a true reference book, but it is a good textbook.
I just received this book for a class that i’ll be using it a lot in. And the quality of it is so poor. The book was bent when I first took it out of the packaging. Pages inside are falling out and the edges are all folded and it looks unpresentable. Also, it is a little dirty. I’m actually embarrassed to bring this into class, it looks like I threw it in the road and ran over it with my car.
It's a beautiful book to look at but it's very fragile for the hefty price tag. The cover is flimsy, which is difficult on a large format book. Worst of all, as soon as I opened the cover a few pages fell out. I treat my textbooks gently and like to resell them once the semester has passed. Not likely with this one.
For the class I took I had to use this book a lot. The soft cover is no good in that the edges start to turn up. When I got halfway through the book two of the pages came out. I'm not sure if the book I had was just poorly made. Overall the information in the book is great and very detailed. The text is very easy to understand and the diagrams help in understanding what the text is talking about. Other then the material the book is made out of I would recommend this book. Also, the price beats the schools book store so that is a win win!
